Music and me

Music and me

I have been a music lover since I was like 8 or 9, I remember riding in my mum’s green Mercedes Benz coupe to school everyday and she’d play her Tracy Chapman and Dolly Parton tapes..always those two tapes and after some time I knew some of the songs by heart . I love tracy chapman, I don’t think we have artiste’s like her anymore…I could listen to her all day and wouldn’t get tired..that voice of hers..hmmm!!!

I love all kinds of music..seriously am that much a music head but of all the genre’s I love soft rock and soul music the most..what a combination right. I also listen to everything from African music to techno…yes I am weird like that. Thank u!

Which means I listen to people like chemical brothers, fat boy slim, the killers, Craig david, panic at the disco, Donell jones (who doesn’t get the recognition he deserves), floetry, Tracy chapman, Nat king cole, Avril lavigne, Sade adu (bless her soul), maroon 5, Gabrielle, dido, arrested development, kanye west, Frank Sinatra, Sophie ellis bextor, Groove armada, Jill scott, Alanis morisette, goo goo dolls, outlandish

freshly ground, Eve, Michael buble, John legend, John mayer, Michelle branch, howie day, fall out boy, Coldplay and a whole lot of others, my interests are varied as I mentioned earlier. My brothers say I love ‘white music’ I try not to classify music into white or black I just listen to whatever feels good in my soul…yeah love India arie too.

I listen to rap too, I used to be this very huge rap fan in the 90’s (I say 90’s like am all grey haired and wrinkly now)....well I listened to everything from tupac, dre, snoop to da luniz, biggie, da brat, rakeem, mase, krs-one, naughty by nature(hip hop horray days) everything man! I guess it was all because of my brothers who were big time rap fans back then..i mean who wasn’t…you remember ’regulate’ tan tan tan tan tan tan nana.. (It was a clear black night, a clear white moon, Warren G was on the streets, trying to consume, some skirts for the eve, so I can get some funk just rollin in my ride, chillin all alone)….how can I even forget warren g and nate dogg and the fuggees…gosh I am one of those people who think they don’t make music like back then…now it’s a whole bunch of finger snapping and too much leaning back..giving me a bloody back ache. ”Snap your fingers, do ur stare u can do it all by urself”…”u can do it all by urself u don’t need nobodies help”…lol…why do they keep emphasizing the fact that u can do it by urself….er….duh!
Also fancied r n b….remember 90’s girls and SWV (will always love be right here)…or nuttin nyce (nuttin nyce is down for whatever), total, 702(where ma girls at?), Adina Howard (I use to tease one boy with that song, iv always been a small ashawo, ill go to him and start gyrating….
(“I wanna freak in the morning, freak in the evening just like me. I need a ruff neck brother that can satisfy me”…his eyes will start popping and when it gets to the “and we can pump pump all thru the night the early morn…ill push my waist out and thrust it forward like twice or thrice emphasizing the pump pump.)

I also love ‘Doing it by” LL cool j and whatsherface…..my favorite kpanshing song. Not that I have ever kpanshed to it o! or I have ever kpanshed sef or will ever kpansh till am sitting pretty in my husbands house n he has paid my dowry…lol..who am I kiddin.
I have this fantasy that I am still looking for someone to fufill…I sing the girls part and he sings LL’S part..i just think it’d be fun sha..any takers?

Music makes me happy..that’s the bottom line. Apart from writing which I get mental orgasm from. I swear I be making uh’s and ah’s when am writing…mutiple mental orgasms sef…Music is another thing that gets me that way. When am down in the dumps..i listen to some maroon 5 , howie day or John mayer. Especially maroon 5…its my depression c.d, whenever I feel blue maybe some idiot broke my heart(oh shucks), or life basically just sucks at that moment in time or I had an argument and I need to cool off..i pop in my maroon 5 c.d and am Mary fucking Poppins again from fucking cruella deville on crack. Music has that effect on me.

I love craig david I just found out my brother bought his first c.d, I am so going to fap it cause he gave mine to some chic he was scoping who would probably not appreciate it as much as I do. Remember when “Born to do it” came out? I mean people knew the wordings better than they knew the national anthem, the album was played every freaking where volume cranked up to the loudest blaring on streets. I remember hearing “Fill me in” for the first time in boarding house on this old radio owned by a class mate ‘Isibor’…I fell with the song immediately..graduation was 2 weeks later..the first thing I did when I got home was to find out who sang that wonderful song. It was different, it was a breath of fresh air from the monotonous garbage we had to listen to at that time..so I was hooked line and sinker . That album is a classic, everybody should have it go and get u one…from the road or at the stores just get u one dammit! I didn’t quite enjoy his other albums after the first one, when he tried to please ‘The Americans’ he just lost that touch..hope he can regain it once again and come out with something as banging as his first album.

Sade adu…hmmm..i love her I love her I love her…like Tracy Chapman they don’t make her type no more. Lover’s rock got me through my first year in university. King of sorrow is the soundtrack to my life(well sometimes during those crappy days) and not forgetting ‘by ur side, sweetest taboo, smooth operator and a host of others. I think the only person that feels the sade adu void for me now is ‘Corinne bailey rae’..yeah shes no sade but she has that soothing, sensual voice…I love her I love her I love her….please listen to ‘Trouble sleeping and Like a star, put ur records on is also wonderful’

Everybody has caught the Amy whinehouse bug..funny thing is I knew amy before she blew up and I loved her.She used to be quite curvaceous..now she’s some skinny ass Paris Hilton lookalike..yuck! Mchew!!! (Yes that’s me hissing)

Anyways she had this song I loved ‘Fuck me pumps’…and there was this other one 'stronger than me' i really liked.Back then I knew there was something special about this lady. I knew she’d be big someday I knew this wonderful voice and even better lyrics would take her to the top and voila!!!! She’s like the best thing since slice bread now….she’s one of my favs too.

GET FAMILIAR WITH-

Gym glass heroes..a band after my heart, their unique blend of hip hop and rock blows my socks off..I am in love.I call it ‘hiprock’ hopefully it will catch on.I love the lead singer…apart from being super cute he’s not too shabby in the spitting departnemnt.I’ve heard four of there songs and I haven’t been disappointed. I really need to get their c.d..

I could go on and on..but I think ill make this music and me a constant thing on my blog..every once in a while ill talk about music and me.

My favorite song of all time is ‘All this love” by Donell Jones.

I LOVE MUSIC.

Maybe I'm deeper on the rap and hiphop side than u are....... infact i think that explains it. .....
U're just a case sha, when i was reading the "regulate" part, i actually went to my media center to listen to tan tan tan tan nananana part, ...... i love panic! at the disco and fall out boy and MCR, and those other rock groups, in fact just a few days ago, a friend and I were just wondering why those rock groups like weird names like that, of all the possible wonderful names in this world, lol. i completely adore dolly parton... jolene, 9-5, here you come again, islands in the stream.. the woman knew how to tell a story with her music.. her voice is perfection.. plus she had a personality to match it(and boobs of course..lol) tracy chapman i love for reasons that i cant say in blogsville.. lol... but her voice is so soothing...

I like you love all kinds of music... my friends all think i'm weird cos i love techno, hard rock, soft rock, opera, makossa, ghanaian hiplife... soul, blues, jazz... rnb.. everything really. I love you for loving sade adu... that womans album i think i listened to on instant replay for about a year.. i think everybody in my house knows the lyrics to her songs without even meaning to.. her voice is perfection as is her music... she sings from a place inside and it warms my heart to listen to her. I love all the people you've mentioned.. wheres evanescence and green day though? i love the googoo dolls as well... michael buble and john legend.. oh my gosh.. i know almost every song on bubles album(home, quando quando quando, sway(is probably one of my wedding songs).. naijadude and i are FANATIC about buble..hes canadian too which makes him even yummier.) john legend makes beautiful music and even tho a lot of ppl slept on his new album.. i thought it was great.. pda, heaven, stereo.. gosh.. his old album.. get lifted, refuge(was my favorite)she dont have to know.. i swear my responses to ur posts are sometimes as long as your posts self.. 'ihope you dance', i may hate myself in the morning(leann womack), (actualy no get bk 2 me if you wanna know.. my answers go too long.. lol.
i like rap but i'm not as crazy about it as other genres.. i think the only hiphop albums that i have listened to top to bottom are 50 cent, eminem, tupac and 2 or 3 other ppl... i like the club bangers but nothing really draws me to listen to it in my alone time...

craig david is music as is john mayer(he got me with 'body is a wonderland' and he hasnt let go ever since)...

once again... SADE is in a class all by herself... i havent been able self to gather the energy to do a befitting post for that woman.. i love her with a passion that doesnt even belong to me... king of sorrow, kiss of life(when i was led to you.. i knew you were the one for me.. i swear the whole world could hear my heartbeat.. when i laid eyes on youuuuuuuuuu), pearls... this womans goooooood.

corinne is great... she has a beautiful voice.. i know every song on her album... i'm in love with 'enchantment'... trouble sleeping(its late and im feeling so tired.. having trouble sleeping... ) i've loved amy winehouse longtime... her voice is perfection.. babe i want you to watch this youtube video of her doing a cover of the zutons 'valerie'... her voice on it is so beautiful.. i've watched it on instant replay for about 8 months.. i swear 2 God.. i know every lilt on the song at this point... (the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqSKVv6YO8g)

oh my gosh how do you know about gym class heroes.. babe you almost have Canadian music taste.. cos we're very eclectic down here... the cupid song of theirs is quite catchy.. donnell jones is a wonder.. a work of art his voice is...

Mehn my guys right now are Fall out Boy and Gym class heroes. Se you know they do a lot of stuff together? Think they are even on tour at the moment.

You took us back with Regulate, early to mid 90s rap was arguably Hip-Hops finest era. What can you say about Doing it? Pure aphrodisiac.

That was a nice musical tour. Remided me of 'Love of my life' by Erykah Badu.

Queen of My Castle said...

And I thought I was a well rounded music lover! LOL You have me topped, hands down. Really digging Corrine Bailey Rae right now and Kelly Sweet.

Dear fellow nerd,

what a beautiful article, what a pleasant flashback to the glorious golden 90s, when music was still a heartfelt, soul-stirring expression of art and spirit. Not the over-recycled, over-produced, over-rated, bland, generic assembly-line babble over nondescript beats and boring melodies that constitutes the Top-what-have-yous.

I pity the younger ones today, who consider 50 Cent and the Pussycat Dolls as music.

I bookmarked your blog. Holla at me, nerd.
